The following piece was submitted by Dale Hayes, the producer and one the directors of Folie’s Follies which is produced by d2 Productions. The piece is part of QDF’s series of artist-submitted works detailing experiences creating at the 26th edition of the St-Ambroise Montreal FRINGE Festival.
The press releases are off, our rehearsals are done, the actors are ready and the props are in the wings. The 2016 St-Ambroise Montreal FRINGE Festival has officially opened. This is d2 productions’ fourth FRINGE experience and people ask us all the time why we go back and do it again and again. It’s simple…the energy, the vibe! There’s nothing quite like the excitement of Fringe-for-all, the controlled chaos of postering, the 13th Hour for all the night owls, and the ever so popular Lip-Schtick. I mean they even have Provincial Air Guitar Championships, you gotta love it!
FOLIE’S FOLLIES, presented by d2productions, is a vignette of three short comedic plays by Michael Folie, DARN IT, DUST and MEETING OF THE MINDS that will get you right into the FRINGE spirit. The plays are all about relationships. The good, the bad and the absurd! In DARN IT, watch lawyers negotiate a pre-dating agreement for their clients. Spy on a married couple as they discuss the joys, pitfalls and “different operating systems” of their relationship in DUST. In MEETING OF THE MINDS we listen in on a pair of squabbling genitalia. Our ethnically and age diverse cast bring a full range of personal experience to their performances.
Montreal is waking up from a long brutal winter, people are getting their groove on, and the terraces are filling up. What better way to spend a summer afternoon or evening than having a meal on a terrace, seeing a FRINGE play and then heading over to the FRINGE Beer Tent for a drink. Support local theatre, celebrate the artists, participate in the festivities and take in a few shows. FOLIE’S FOLLIES is at Venue #8, Black Theatre Workshop.
