The following piece was written by Dayane Ntibarikure, the Executive and Artist Director of CETM.

In April 2015, Stephen Pietrantoni, CETM’s founder and director,  passed away from lymphoma, leaving his legacy behind. Since CETM’s official re-launch this past December, we have been very hard at work to expand our creative team and not only keep supporting the artistic community but to keep Stephen’s legacy alive!

We are now excited and proud to present the 8th edition of The Next Wave Festival and you are invited to come share the excitement with us!

The Next Wave, Canada’s Festival for New Musical Theatre  is a showcase for original musicals in development from Montreal and around the globe, whether in French, English or bilingual. It’s also the only festival of its kind in the country! It is a wonderful collection of performances and special events for musical theatre lovers and practitioners, as well as newcomers. This year’s festival will be held at salle Paul-Buissonneau (parc Lafontaine) from September 14 to 17 and it will be showcasing local homegrown talent from Montreal.

Presented in French and English, Sixties Follies is a delicious bilingual little gem of a show that transports the crowd right back to Jersey City in 1963. It will have you humming and tapping your feet to the rhythm of its 60’s tunes soundtrack. If you liked Grease, you will love Sixties Follies!

From the brilliant mind that brought you Captain Aurora I and II, a Fringe favorite two years in a row, we present you A Song of Fiction by no other than Montreal’s very own Trevor Barrette. Presented in English, this is a show inside a show about childhood friends who struggle to finish their musical as the line between what is real and what is imagined begins to blur.

Closing night of the Festival is a very unique one this year as it doubles as a showcase to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of CETM and a fundraiser to help support the organization’s future events!

Soiree 10e Acte/Act 10 is a chance to travel through time and rediscover some of CETM’s best moments of the past 10 years! It stars CETM’s alumni and some guest artists. Each ticket sold gives access to the showcase, a charity tax receipt, a chance to win a $500 Via Rail gift certificate, a silent auction and much more!

Thank you for your continued support during the past decade! Here’s to many more!
